GRADE 4 Etude in E Minor: Tutorial
Today's tutorial is for a grade 4 piece by Carl Albert Loeschhorn called Etude in E Minor. It is found in the RCM's Celebration Series etude book (6th edition). You can download the PDF and/or MuseScore file below:
www.pianotv.net/2024/06/grade-4-etude-in-e-minor-tutorial/
The main focus of this etude is to develop lightly connected legato technique, study chords/chord theory, and work on using the sheet music as a guide (instead of memorizing). If you've been playing for 4+ years, give this one a try! :)

    I often worry too much about the technical side of playing (and sounding a bit robotic because of that) and neglect the emotional side of it. Great video! Thank you!

    Very helpful video. I recently bought a music book (music from minecraft - easy piano collection) that has 'easy' piano arrangements, and while the arrangements might be easy, it had the bare minimum amount of finger numbers in it, and a few of the fingering suggestions just seemed downright bad. Having some principles/a guide to follow as I try to figure out my own fingerings is very useful!

    So, RUclips made a playlist for me with romantic music a week ago. In that playlist there was a piece of music by Rachmaninof. It was from a movie "Somewhere in time". I knew it from the Winter Olympics. A Russian pair was dancing to this piece in figure skating. It was Variation #18 from Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini. Now I can't get it out my head. I hear it all the time on RUclips.

    Great. Reminds me of Bach's prelude in c major. I pretty much could just site read it. Changed the fingering in the first 4 notes (measures 1 and 9), treble clef, to 4-3-2-1. Just works better for me. Only thing I have to practice/work on, is getting it up to speed smoothly with no unwanted pauses. Thank u 4 the pdf. xoxo.

I feel very stupid now... And I don't think I am not musical, also diligently practise sightreading and scales/arpeggio stuff... 2-3hrs total practise time daily

    Before watching this video, I always thought Impressionism is all about scenery, like it's taking you to something or somewhere your eyes can see/feel. With other style it's more like understanding what that person feels about something, whether that be love, sadness, anger, etc.

  • @sgut1947
    @sgut1947 11 дней назад

    This is very interesting. Thank you. One point to note is that these techniques are for speeding up. Before we speed up, we need to learn the notes and start getting them into muscle memory. It's very risky to try to speed up until we've done this, because any mistakes we make can quickly become habits, and correcting these habits is much harder than avoiding them in the first place. Another point is that, while pieces by Bach and other baroque composers are often quite regular in their rhythms, this often doesn't apply to music from later periods. I'm currently learning Beethoven's trio Op1 no2. The first movement has some very easy passages in quarter- and eighth-notes, and some short but very tricky passages in triplet 16th notes. It would be a waste of time to play through the whole of this movement at, say 60bpm. Most of it is too easy to need this. So, for music that has passages of varying difficulty, I often feel that the flying method is the only one worth using. Finally, it's really important to practice the bridges on both sides of a passage we're practicing. I've sometimes started practicing some measure, only to realise that I was starting on the wrong finger, which wouldn't have happened if I had played a lead-in.

    I find that I try to speed up a piece too quickly. I guess patience is.a virtue. Be content with slowly increasing the speed. I have a request for you. When playing two notes together (especially in my left hand) I have trouble playing them exactly simultaneously. One note always plays slightly ahead of the other. I find it is more pronounced following a big jump in hand position. Any tips on correcting this?

    I almost always start with playing through the entire piece, and normally some parts are weaker than other parts. Then I'll consentrate on the weaker parts and repeat them in 2-4 bar sections. The goal is not necessarily to get them up to full speed, but at least to get them up to a point where they're no longer the weakest parts of the piece. Then I play through the whole piece again, and notice that now some other parts have become the weakest parts. Rinse and repeat.
